Canada’s Express Entry Insights for January 2024 with VizTrack

January 24, 2024by Usama0

VizTrack Immigration Service is excited to share the latest developments in Canada’s Express Entry system, providing valuable insights for individuals aspiring to settle in the country through employment opportunities. In the recent Express Entry draw conducted by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), a total of 1,040 candidates received invitations, marking the second draw of 2024.

As of January 23, candidates needed to achieve a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 543 to be eligible for consideration. This follows a previous draw on January 10, where 1,510 candidates were invited with a minimum CRS score of 546. The draws in 2024 maintain the momentum of a busy December, during which IRCC conducted seven separate draws, including all-program draws and category-based selection draws for candidates with specific skills and language proficiency.

In the Express Entry system throughout 2023, IRCC organized 42 draws, with a mix of all-program draws, category-based selection draws, and draws exclusively for candidates nominated through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) or the Federal Skilled Worker category.

Looking ahead, it’s challenging to predict the frequency and types of draws in 2024, as IRCC has moved away from a predictable schedule. However, based on the Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026, the department aims to admit up to 110,770 new permanent residents to Canada in 2024. To achieve this goal, IRCC will issue Invitations to Apply (ITAs) throughout the year, considering the six new Express Entry draw categories introduced in May 2023:

  1. Healthcare occupations
  2. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  3. Trades occupations (e.g., carpenters, plumbers, contractors)
  4. Transport occupations
  5. Agriculture and agri-food occupations
  6. Strong French proficiency

Express Entry candidates with attributes matching these categories must be in the application pool under one of the three Express Entry-managed programs to be considered. Additionally, candidates receiving a nomination through the Provincial Nominee Program gain a significant advantage, earning an additional 600 CRS points, virtually guaranteeing an ITA in an upcoming draw.

Express Entry, established in 2015, is an application management system designed to expedite the processing of economic immigration candidates in the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program. The system uses the Comprehensive Ranking System to assess candidates based on factors such as occupation, education, language ability, work experience, and age. Those with the highest scores are more likely to receive an ITA for permanent resident status.
